Compared between timber piles concrete piles and steel piles

There are lots of materials we can use for construction foundation, such as timber piles, concrete piles and steel piles. What’s the difference between them? First, timber piles differ from concrete or steel piles as they are naturally made instead of man-made. This means they are cheaper than concrete or steel piles. Because of the

natural characteristics of timber, the density or unit weight of timber piles is variable and highly dependent on the species, specific gravity and water content of the timber itself. Under this situation, we cannot make sure the quality when they face with the hurricane which is its shortage. Of course, it is very easy of corrosion and rust which has not long life service.

What’s more, concrete piles are both similar and different to timber piles and to steel piles. Concrete and timber piles are considered “displacement” piles. Actually, we all know that concrete piles are expensive than timber piles. However, the cost would be higher than timber piles.

Finally, steel piles made by steel would have its special advantages for human. Steel piles slide past soil particles as they are being driven instead of displacing them. Due to this corrosion resistant, steel piles can be made into any reasonable lengths since splicing is usually not an issue. Of course, they can withstand hard driving situations but unlike concrete piles are not subject to a wave, so this is the main reason to use it like other steel products steel pipe such as seamless steel pipe, spiral steel pipe and ERW steel pipe.
