Steel pipes are widely used in transporting water and gas and other liquid or gassy necessities. And the function of the fittings is to link two pipes. But the fittings and steel pipes will be rusted over a period of time. And when it is needed to repair the leaky steel pipes we should remove the fitting first. However, the rusted steel pipe fittings make the removing work a little bit hard. Spray lubricant on the
API 5l steel pipe and the joint places. And keep it on the surface of the pipe for a period of time. The time depends on the rusted situation. If it is slightly rusted, keep the lubricant on the surface for 15-20 minutes. But if the rusted condition is a little bit severe, keep the lubricant on the pipe overnight to penetrate into the deep, which helps to loosen the rusted layer.
Hit the pipe slightly for 5-10 minutes with hammer. And if the amount of the rust is large, you could add to the strength on the hammer. This is a important role to the following steps. Thus make sure you control the proper strength.
Use two wrenches to remove the fittings. One is placed on the fitting place. The other is placed on the linkage part. And turn them in adverse directions as leverage that has function to remove the fittings from the API welded steel pipe. And keep it in mind that when turning the wrenches, you should put forth your strength as the same time to better separate the fittings and pipes. In addition, the choice of the pipe wrench should also be carefully. And if needed, you can utilize the leverage-extender to remove the rusted fittings.
If you cannot remove the rusted fittings from the API black steel pipe, you should spray more lube and make it penetrate into the rust for a longer time. Or you could put more strength on the hitting with hammer. As for some link spots that are difficult to remove, you'd better heat the link places for 15-30 minutes, which will melt the rust layer and you can remove the rust easier.
