As steel pipe’s clients, we are clear that there are various corrosion situation for steel pipes from seamless steel pipe, ERW steel pipe to SSAW steel pipe and so on. Today, Threewaysteel pipe company would analyse the difference between micro-cell corrosion and macro-cell corrosion for seamless steel pipe.

 

Micro-cell corrosion means the role of a few millimeters from the micro-cells in the steel pipe. And it can even just separate from the anode and cathode in a few microns which is damaged by corrosion. This kind of corrosion has the character of its shape’s uniform. As we all know that there is very close distance between the micro-anode and the cathode, so the rate of corrosion of the micro-cell does not depend on the resistible of the soil but only on the micro-processes of the anode and cathode electrodes

Macro-cell corrosion is galvanic action. There is a huge distance between the corrosion places for a steel pipe, which can reach a few centimeters far or even a few meters of corrosion caused by the anode and cathode areas. Of course, The corrosion rate of macro cells is related to the soil resistivity except for the anode and cathode electrode processes. Which is the difference for the micro-cell corrosion.
