US steel mill shipment volumes jumped in January

The most recent report released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI)- the association of North American steel producers indicates that the US steel mill shipments rose significantly by 7.2% during the month of January this year when compared with the previous month. However, the shipments in January 2016 were down sharply by 9.4% when compared with the figures recorded during same month a year before.
According to AISI, the US steel mills shipment for the month of January totaled 7,031,307 net tons, up by 7.2% when compared with the total shipments of 6,556,342 net tons during December 2015. Meantime, steel shipments in January this year witnessed considerable decline over the previous year. Steel shipments dropped by 9.4% during Jan ‘16, when compared with the 7,762,742 net tons shipment during the same month in 2015.
The US steel shipments for the entire year 2015 had declined by 11.9% to 86.547 million net tons as against 98.249 million tons shipment during the entire year 2014.
The products which witnessed sizable changes in shipments during the month of January when compared with the previous month were: hot dipped galvanized sheets, up 13 percent, cold rolled sheets, up 12 percent and hot rolled sheets, up 2 percent.
