Vietnam government has decided to take up actions against Steel plants that don’t meet environmental standards, said deputy prime minister. The minister said that they may even halt operations at any Steel plant that violates the environmental norms.
The government has come up with the decision as mass fish death was caused by a giant Taiwanese Steel plant Formosa. The local authorities in the country were asked to follow technical and environmental standards when issuing investment licenses. The government has also decided to eliminate small Steel enterprises with outdated technology that pose a threat to the environment.
The country's Steel production rose by 21.8 percent in 2015 from 19.8 percent the year before, making Vietnam the largest producer in Southeast Asia.
