Advantages and disadvantages of spiral welded steel pipes

First, what are spiral welded steel pipes?
Spiral welded steel pipes are made by rolling low-carbon structural steel or low-alloy structural steel strips into tube blanks at a certain spiral angle (called forming angle), and then welding the tube seams. It can produce large-diameter steel pipes with narrower strips. Its specifications are expressed by outer diameter * wall thickness. The welded pipe should ensure that the water pressure test, tensile strength of the weld, and cold bending performance meet the requirements. Spiral welded steel pipes are mainly used in tap water projects, the petrochemical industry, the chemical industry, the power industry, agricultural irrigation, and urban construction in China. For liquid transportation: water supply and drainage. For gas transportation: coal gas, steam, liquefied petroleum gas. For structural use: as piling pipes, bridges; docks, roads, building structure pipes, etc.

Second, what are the advantages and disadvantages of spiral welded steel pipes?
1. Advantages of spiral welded steel pipes
(1) The same width of strip steel can produce steel pipes of different diameters, especially narrow strip steel can produce large-diameter steel pipes.
(2) Under the same pressure conditions, the stress borne by the spiral weld is smaller than that of the straight weld, which is 75% to 90% of that of the straight weld pipe, so it can withstand greater pressure. Compared with the straight weld pipe of the same outer diameter, the wall thickness can be reduced by 10% to 25% under the same pressure.
(3) The dimensions are precise, and the general diameter tolerance does not exceed 0.12%, the deflection is less than 1/2000, and the ovality is less than 1%. Generally, the sizing and straightening processes can be omitted.
(4) Continuous production is possible. In theory, it can produce infinitely long steel pipes, with small losses in cutting heads and tails, which can increase the metal utilization rate by 6% to 8%.
(5) Compared with the straight weld pipe, it is flexible in operation and convenient to change varieties and adjust.
(6) The equipment is light in weight and has low initial investment. It can be made into a trailer-type mobile unit to produce welded pipes directly at the construction site where the pipeline is laid.
(7) It is easy to realize mechanization and automation.
2. Disadvantages of spiral welded steel pipes
Due to the use of rolled steel strips as raw material, there is a certain crescent bend, and the welding point is in the elastic strip edge area, so it is not easy to align the welding torch, affecting the welding quality. For this reason, complex weld tracking and quality inspection equipment should be set up.

Third, what are the characteristics of spiral welded steel pipes compared with other pipes?
1. High strength: Spiral welded steel pipes are made of high-strength steel, with high bending resistance, compression resistance, and strength, and can withstand large external forces and pressures.
2. Corrosion resistance: The surface of spiral welded steel pipes is galvanized or sprayed, which can effectively prevent oxidation and corrosion, extend the service life of the pipeline, and greatly reduce the frequency of maintenance and replacement.
3. Convenient installation: Spiral welded steel pipes are made of spiral welding technology, with firm joints, convenient and quick installation, and do not require a large number of accessories and connectors. This reduces installation costs and improves work efficiency.
4. Diverse specifications: Spiral welded steel pipes can be customized according to user needs Different specifications and sizes, suppliers can process according to customer needs, and provide various accessories and joints to meet the needs of different projects and use environments.
5. Wide application scope: Spiral welded steel pipes are widely used in oil, natural gas, chemical industry, construction, aerospace, electricity, heating, and municipal engineering. Spiral welded steel pipes have good material properties and can meet the needs of different industries and fields.
6. Convenient construction: Spiral welded steel pipes have high-pressure bearing and corrosion resistance and are suitable for various environmental conditions, such as soil, water, high temperature, low temperature, etc. During the construction process, it can adapt to various terrains and landforms, making construction more convenient.
