There are various kinds of steel pipes actually, and API 5L steel pipe is one of the standard pipes that are produced in according to the requirements of Amercian Petroleum Institute. Welding steel pipe is differently depending on the style and type of steel. Different steel pipe calls for different welding methods actually and they have different requirements on temperature, melt point and so forth. Certain steels require special preheating and cooling to avoid cracking during welding or cooling. Some people tend to weld steel pipe using a standard hand held propane torch, and some like to use TIG or MIG welding tools.
In order to weld API steel pipe, you need to prepare tools, like hand-held propane torch, proper welding rod or solder for style of steel, welding goggles. You should weld with steady uniform movements and attempt to keep weld even around entire joint. Well, welding without proper protective gear will cause serious injury actually. You are advised to weld carefully.
Step 1
Wear your protective goggles and ensure that the welding goggles cover your eyes during the melting process. To protect your eyes from the bright light is really needed actually.
Step 2
The ends of API steel pipe need to be heated before welding. You should control the heat temperature actually.
Step 3
Use a hand-held propane torch to solder the welding rod into the joint of the steel pipe. Or you can melt the welding rod into the joint of the steel pipe actually.
Step 4
The melted welding rod or solder joint should completely cover the pipe joint surface.
Step 5
Wait for the welded joint and steel pipe to cool and test the strength of the joint by applying pressure to the pipe near weld. The welded steel pipe and black steel pipe are also available. Test to see whether the welding can bear your required load.
